Some of the tracks on this album started out as possible ideas for a new Orchid-Star album, something we eventually had to accept was not going to happen, at least not for the time being.
That was in April last year and straightaway I threw myself into producing this instead, my first new album with no collaborators or guests in about 30 years. Although I only used a few of the Orchid-Star-intended ideas by that point I was in the headspace for doing something a little more energetic overall than my other solo releases. So there is definitely still a properly chilled element, there's other more bouncy, dubby downtempo and there's even a couple of tracks that verge on qualifying as dance tracks, certainly more so than on any of my previous solo outings.
It has my usual main influences - psychedelic, world and a hint of classical - and other things besides, from the almost jazzy feel of Dance of the Cupboard Spider to the childlike elements of The Sparkly Adventures of Emerald Haze, written for my granddaughter - but it's still, I think, fairly recognizably me!
